Artistic process
Most
of the members of this group met during the Potography evening classes.
They
wanted to create a reflexion group to promote their works.
Their aim was to
create a place of reflexion and promotion, they decided to meet twice a month
to share critical analysis.Beyond traditional analogical images ; Quanta explores
the numerous hidden facettes of photography, putting the emphasis on different
plastic signs (colour-form-texture) free from any iconological message, mearningful
by themselves.More than hundred years after painting, photography is now breaking
free to tranform light into art consciousness.
Extract from of the Quanta group's text
In physic, the quanta is the smallest amount of energy.
Since 93 it has also
been the name of a Liège photography movement whieh was born during the
" Rencontre International de la photo à Arles "
The
main line of force of this group is to work on the photographic medium and on
plastic meaning.
Concretely, the mouvement is organised around three priorities:
1-The basic idea is the elaboration of a personal photography.
The aim
is to create a place where to analyse works by exchanging points of view, discussing
artistic process and exploring the medium.
2-They also want to make of
Quanta a place of reflexion on the role of photography and its links with contemporary
art.
Quanta is a place of reflexion- research and production-
3-The
third pool is to distibute works : apart from personal exhibition, they try to
organise collective exhibitions to express the theoretical and artistic research
of the movement.
Extract from the text " When the photography free itself "of JM Klinkenbberg
Throught their work Quanto
intends to:
-stress the role of light as a raw material in photography
-stress the autonomy and the dynamism of any material, the original in the ultimate
material
-stress the role of a theoretical and speculative approach in photography. The
works of the Quanta group's members are so different that looking at them too
frickly, you could wonder wether they have a common intention and practice.
But this apparent dispersion cames from the fact that each of the members, privileges
sometimes one of another particular aim of the group.
It also comes frpm
the fact that they want to explore different possibilities.
